Understanding the Importance of Flue Inspections

As IPAF trained engineers, Ignite Facilities understands the importance of flue inspections in domestic and commercial properties.

IPAF is the leading governing body at the forefront of ensuring the safety and that testing procedures across a number of industries are maintained effectively.

For our latest blog, we are going to explain some of the reasons to book your flue inspection today.

Qualified Gas Engineers Make the Difference

Issues can arise when it comes to carrying out safety checks either when a boiler is commissioned, at an annual safety check or following maintenance on the system.

According to the Gas Safety (Installation and Use) Regulations and the related Approved Code of Practice issued by the Health and Safety Executive, a qualified gas engineer (such as Ignite Facilities) will need to confirm the following:

  • The effectiveness of the flue
  • The supply of combustion
  • The appliance’s heat input or operating pressure, if required both will need checking
  • The operation of the appliance to make sure it is functioning safely

For these checks to take place, a gas engineer will carry out a visual inspection across the entire length of the flue system.

A Landlords Responsibility for Flue Inspections

Residential landlords need to ensure boilers and flues undergo a yearly gas safety check.
This will require a gas engineer to see the flue as part of the process when working on the boiler. Flues remove fumes from the boiler so a poorly conditioned flue could put residents in danger of carbon monoxide poisoning.
